Severe hot weather takes a toll on air
conditioning systems, and this is when we see a lot of units breakdown.
We wrote about this recently, How Does Hot Weather Affect Air Conditioners? Most units can be repaired and be up and running very quickly, but
some will need to be replaced. Knowing which is the best decision for you
requires expertise and trust. Thankfully,
Greens Appliance Heating and Cooling provides both expertise and trust.
And, Greens has a 24 hour emergency service that can get homes back to cooling
on the weekends and holidays! Now that's service you can trust! So, if
you need a new air conditioner serviced or installed, call us for a free quote
to compare with the other bids you are considering. Call Greens today at

How does hot weather affect air
conditioners and central air systems anyhow? Severe hot weather
does, in fact, take its toll on air conditioning systems, making it a challenge
to keep homes cool, often times causing units to break down. Two
tips to help you avoid an expensive (and sometimes unnecessary)
repair bill.
1. Make sure to replace your furnace filter
each month with a clean one. A dirty filter causes your unit to work harder.
When the heat index is high, your unit will have to work very hard and a dirty
filter will compound the matter. This is actually the number one cause of
premature failure! Use a good quality pleated filter for maximum efficiency.
2.
If your unit has not had its annual maintenance, get it
down now! Each year your unit should have a seasonal maintenance performed by a licensed heating and cooling technician. This should be a
full comprehensive inspection done by a professional who will clean and inspect
all the operations thoroughly, in addition to checking and adjusting all the
pressures. Make sure your unit is properly serviced each spring/summer to
ensure it is running at its most efficient capacity.
By doing
these two simple things, you will enjoy maximum comfort in your home, experience a lower utility bill, be a more environmentally friendly consumer, and, most likely never have to call a repair
man. For more comfort tips, and tips to save
energy and money, call Dan Sprague at Greens Appliance Heating Cooling
(515-323-0680). And, that's not just a bunch of hot air we're selling ya!
A Goodman air conditioning unit
(Model# CLJ30-1A) in Ankeny, IA receiving a Seasonal Maintenance from DJ at
Greens Appliance Heating and Cooling is sure lucky. Goodman's products never
have it as good as when they get it from Greens. DJ expertly tested the blowers and the motors for correct
rotation, speed, belt condition and tension, and adjusted the dampers.
He replaced the customer's 1” filter for FREE!
DJ also checked the evaporator coil
temperature, and cleaned it. He straightened out the fins, fan, hose and
drain, of course. Every one knows you got to do those things, right!?
He cleaned and checked the efficiency of the condenser and adjusted as
needed. Whew!
The refrigerant levels were checked. They needed to
be charged, so they were charged as needed, as well as, making sure all the
pressures were normal, and checking the efficiency of the compressor.
DJ also checked
the electrical for the AC, making sure the voltage and amp draw were correct,
as well as double checking the start/run capacitors, contractors, relays, and
the safety controls for correct operation and settings. This is important
for a unit to run at maximum capability.
The thermostat and controls were
calibrated and checked for correct operation for the upcoming summer. Ah,
summer. Doesn't it feel good just talking about summer? And last but not least, DJ checked the unit
for leaks, and found none at this time. The customer did not have a whole house humidifier, but if they did, DJ would have also shut that off for
the summer free of charge. All in all, the unit is working
great! A 21 point clean and check is our standard for all
Seasonal Maintenance! So email us by

A Goodman Air Conditioner Repair in Elkhart,
Iowa is no match for Greens Appliance Heating Cooling's expert air conditioning
technician. Why call Greens Appliance Heating and Cooling? A Goodman central air conditioner (Model#
CLJ60-1C) in Elkhart, IA that keeps tripping the breaker prompted a Central
Iowa customer to call Greens. This was pretty frustrating for this Greens
customer. DJ, a top repair technician, was sent to find the reason why.
Not so much why the customer was frustrated, we knew that. But, to
find the source of the problem. How did we fix this air
conditioner? DJ found that the A/C had a bad compressor.
Oh, no! Acting on his own recognizance, he installed a new compressor for
the unit. But, the weather from our unseasonably warm winter turned
south, and it was too cold for him to charge the unit with refrigerant and test
it. So, what did Greens do? Out of sight out of mind? Wait for a
happy customer to call us back? Hardly.
After a few weeks the warm weather returned again (like it always does in
Iowa.) DJ, tracked this repair ticket for when he would be able to charge
the unit and test it. Soon, he did. Everything ran great! Good work DJ!
Greens Appliance Heating and Cooling received a call for a
Lennox A/C unit (Model# 10ACB36-5P) that isn’t cooling in Johnston, IA.
Greens sent
out Chris, one of the top air conditioner repairmen on Greens' team.
Chris found that the A/C had a bad condenser fan motor.
We replace parts when we can. Once he replaced the
bad motor and tested the unit, then everything was working great! Thank you
Chris for your hard work turning this Air Conditioner Repair on Lennox in
Johnston, Iowa into a job well done! Another satisfied customer.

What do you do when your Tempstar air conditioner is not cooling and you need service, ...like right
now!? A Tempstar A/C (Model# ACS024A2CI) was not cooling in
Ankeny, Iowa, so the customer called Greens. Naturally. We are open 24/7
for your benefit, but not on this call. We sent our technician, DJ, out
during regular business hours to take a look. Low and behold, he found a
bad condenser fan motor. Turns out it was seized up. Yikes! So, DJ replaced the bad motor, along with its matching capacitor, and everything worked great! How do you get ahold of Greens to have them help you? Simple, click here to contact

Greens AHC was recently called out
for a Maytag Dryer (Model DE608) not heating for a customer in Johnston, IA.
The customer, of course, called Greens to find out why. Greens sent
one of our best appliance repair technicians, Chris, to diagnose the
unit. He found that, in fact, they needed a new heater module. He
installed the new heater module for the dryer, and tested it. The dryer
now works perfectly! Because Greens Appliance Heating and Cooling doesn't sell appliances, they are focused on keeping the
dryer up and running for the customer. That's why customers who have
Greens do their heating and air conditioning service, also have us do their
appliance repair. Greens is unique, in that, they
service major appliances as well as heating and cooling. This way, you
can save a trip charge and have everything serviced in one trip!
Wondering who fixes Broan Trash Compactors (Model 1059-C) near
Urbandale, IA? Recently Greens Appliance Heating Cooling got that call.
"The compactor won’t work at all." So, Greens sent Paul
to the rescue. Ta-Da! Masterfully, he reinstalled a gear and jam
nut that had come lose, and everything checked great. On to the next
cause.
Have you ever had your dishwasher door get so
heavy it almost falls to the floor when you open it? Often, it's a simple
repair. In a recent case, one of our customer's in Altoona, IA had a Bosch Dishwasher (Model SHE65P05UC/63) door that kept slamming down. It
jarred the dishes, glasses, and the nerves of its owner. Green’s
sent Jamie to find out why. This dishwasher needed new door cable kits
for both sides of the door. Jamie also discovered the unit was still
under the year manufacturer warranty, and was able
to repair the unit free of charge for the
customer. Some of the most annoying appliance have simple
resolutions - call Green's AHC 515-323-0680.
With the temperatures and heat indices
continuing to rise, ice cold drinks help us stay comfortable. When your icemaker isn't working, it makes matters a bit hotter. One of our Ankeny customers
has a Kenmore Refrigerator (Model 106.52602100) that was leaking
and it had a broken ice maker. The customer called
Green’s; Paul went out to fix the problem. He cleared ice from the
refrigerator's drain and cleaned an obstruction as well. As for the icemaker, he
was able to find that there was a gear broken, and they needed a new washer for
it as well. Once the parts came in, Paul was able to fix
the icemaker for the customer, and everything is working great
now.
One of our best furnace repair technicians, DJ,
went out to fix a Lennox Furnace (Model G50UH-36A-070-1) leaking gas in
Ankeny, IA. Yikes! Luckily, the customer called Greens Appliance Heating and Cooling. DJ was on the scene, quickly! (BTW - we are
available 24x7 for these types of events) He used soap
bubbles on all the furnace joints, and was unable to find any gas leaks
immediately. The gas powered furnace and water heater were both in a very
small closet and both had open burners! We assessed the gas smell was
most likely coming from there. By the time we left, it ended well.
What do you do if you smell gas?
A Janitrol Furnace (Model GMP100-5) was causing a
customer to smell gas, so they called Greens Appliance Heating and Cooling. Greens
sent DJ out to investigate a gas smell. DJ sniffed around and found that
the igniter was not igniting the burners fast enough and was causing gas build
up. He recommended to the customer that they replace the igniter, and gave them
a flat rate quote. There was absolutely no need to get a new furnace.
Inevitably, the customer went ahead with the repair, and DJ replaced the
igniter for them. He cycled the unit, checked for any gas leaks, and
found none. The furnace is now working properly without the smell of gas.
What is flat rate pricing? Flat Rate Quote is used to simplify pricing for a customer instead of taking extra
time figuring time and materials. If you wonder why Greens seems so
professional, one of the reasons is that they use flat rate pricing.
It's not often we get a call for a Lennox Furnace (Model G40UF-36A-070-06) not working properly for a customer in Des
Moines, IA. But, we do. These things happen. Luckily, they
called Greens to fix the problem. Greens sent one of our top furnace repair technicians, Chris. Chris found that a dirty flame sensor was the
culprit. He simply cleaned the flame sensor, and cycled the unit. All
in one visit! We call this first call resolution. Everything is now
working properly.
BTW - Had the customer needed appliance repair, as
well, we could have taken care of both needs in one trip. We do this
often. Give us a try.
A RUUD Furnace (Model UGRA-09EZAJS) leaking
water in Clive, IA is what caused a customer to contact Greens ApplianceHeating Cooling on February 20th. How Rude. (Get
it, RUUD/Rude, just kidding, couldn't let that one pass!)
The Problem: Greens sent one of our top furnace repair techs, DJ, out
to investigate. He was able to find the condensate line had cracked and
was leaking water. Not good. Furthermore, this had caused the
furnace to become extremely rusted. Double not good. It was obvious to him that
the furnace had been leaking water for an extended amount of time. Years,
probably.
The Solution: DJ replaced the condensate hose and cycled the unit (meaning turn the furnace on and let it run,
briefly.) As an value-added extra, he also warned the customer that the
blower motor was starting to go bad and would need replaced soon. Everything is
working fine at this time. One more happy customer.
FYI - Greens does more than provide excellent service on your furnace, they
also provide you with top-notch major home appliance repair. And, they
can kill two birds with one stone (not sure if that metaphor is PC, nowadays)
by taking care of your furnace and dishwasher on the same trip! Now
that's Greens!
On March 13th, a top
appliance repair technician for Greens Appliance Heatingand Cooling, Jamie, went to West Des Moines, Iowa to work on a Bosch dishwasher
(Model SHU9915UC/U11) that was leaking water. Jamie
noticed that the garbage disposal had been replaced recently,
and the dishwasher was over-filling with water. The water was running
down the inside of the door and underneath the dishwasher. Come
to find out, our customer put a fan in front of the dishwasher
to dry up the water so that she could use it (good thinking.) The
knock-out plug was still in the disposal (which is to be removed upon
installation, not good thinking) and that is why it wasn’t draining
correctly. Once Jamie removed the knock out plug, everything worked
properly! It's a good thing the customer didn't
pull the plug on calling Greens! Yeah customer -
yeah Jamie!
