4 Ways to Save Energy With Your Refrigerator

Generally, appliances that create or reduce heat will use the most energy. Your refrigerator reduces heat, or "keeps things cold" and can sometimes run 8-10 hours a day.  That's why it's important to make sure you keep on top of things by periodically checking the fridge.

If your refrigerator door doesn't close tightly, check the door seal to see if it needs to be cleaned or replaced. A door leak allows cool air to escape, forcing your refrigerator to use more energy to keep your food cold. A freezer’s efficiency is increased by keeping its compartment full. Just try not to block the fan that allows cold air to circulate.

Check temperature settings to get the most efficient appliance operation. Refrigerator temperature should be 36-38 degrees and freezer temperature should be 0-5 degrees. Cleaning the condenser coils found in the back or bottom of the refrigerator will maximize its efficiency.

A brush or vacuum can be used. Be sure to unplug the refrigerator before you start cleaning. While cleaning your condenser coils isn't a hard job, it can be a dirty one. The condenser is an important part of your refrigerator. Give us acall at 515-323-0680 and we can add your refrigerator to our home appliance maintenance agreement.
