We've had several days already this summer when the heat index suggest Iowa residents stay inside. Staying inside means we should pay
attention to the air quality indoors. Here are a few tips to help improve the
air quality and reduce the risk for respiratory problems:
Rid yourself of air pollutants such as cigarette smoke,
excess moisture, and open chemical containers. Without proper ventilation,
carbon monoxide levels can rise. A detector will help signal dangerous levels.
Clean the windows and dust around the crevasses and corners of the house and
furniture. Don't forget the blades on your ceiling fans. Check the filters in
your Air Conditioner, Dehumidifiers, and even the overhead fan above your
stovetop.
Don't Use Air Fresheners! Especially those labeled
"Fragrance" because they often use synthetic scents. It's much more
healthy to have house plants to help with oxygenation and creation of organic
scents. Wash Your Hands: Especially when coming in from outdoors or
working with any chemical based products. These tips should help improve the
air quality indoors as you escape the heat from outdoors.
